John Manzo

John represents employers, insurers, and third-party administrators in a wide range of workers’ compensation matters before the North Carolina Industrial Commission and state appellate courts, including claims involving difficult compensability determinations, complex occupational diseases, medical causation disputes, challenging subcontractor issues, subrogation lien rights, and Medicare compliance.  John enjoys crafting well-considered defensive strategies for his clients and, while he will aggressively litigate a claim, he values the working relationships fostered by the workers’ compensation process.

John joined Anders Newton during the Summer of 2021 after spending several years practicing workers’ compensation defense at a large national insurance defense firm.  Before entering private practice, he served as a Special Deputy Commissioner with the North Carolina Industrial Commission, where he ruled on disputes arising under the state’s Workers’ Compensation Act.

John is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Wake Forest University School of Law.  At Wake Forest, he served as Articles Editor for the Journal of Business & Intellectual Property and was elected as a member (and eventually Treasurer) of the school’s Honor Council for all three (3) years of his time there.

John grew up in Laurinburg, North Carolina and now lives in Raleigh with his wife, Taylor, and their dog, Frankie.  Outside of the office, John enjoys learning about world history and following college sports.
